victory with Australian Pro Tallulah Farrow in the main draw of the tournament. The two met recently in June at a previous wild card event.

The pair played against Andreea Ghitescu (ROU) and Anastasia Nefedova (USA). Tobita & Farrow won the first set in a tiebreak but fell behind in the second set. With the Hawaii crowd cheering them on, Tobita & Farrow finished the match with a winning score of 7-6(3), 7-6(5).

“We were down 5-1 and we just wanted to, no matter what, get momentum for the tiebreak. We just tried to stay aggressive,” Farrow commented in her post-match interview. Tobita nodded in agreement. She added, “I really enjoy doubles. Me and [Farrow] are new partners but it was a lot of fun and we had good energy.”

After their first round victory today, Tobita & Farrow will return to the courts to face Misaki Doi (JPN) and Jessica Pegula (USA) in the doubles quarterfinals on Thursday, July 12.

The main draw of the Tennis Championships of Honolulu (TCOH) continues tomorrow at 10:00 am at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and will feature both singles and doubles matches. For more information on tickets and this week’s community activities, visit
